With so many Keurig models available, choosing one can often be a daunting project. Keurig K200 and K250 are two models that have definitely earned a spot on our list. Both coffee makers fall in the Keurig Plus series, and are characterized by their reliability, durability and design – just like most Keurig coffee makers. Yet, there are a few minor differences that make us choose one over the other.
There has been quite a lot of fuss online in regards to the pros and cons of each model, so we really hope that we will clear up some confusion through a direct comparison between the Keurig K200 vs K250 model. Keep reading below to find out more.
What is the Difference between the Keurig K200 and the K250 model?
At first glance, the two coffee makers look pretty much alike. When it comes to looks, the two coffee makers are pretty much identical and will take up around the same amount of space on your kitchen counter. The sleek design and minimalistic look of both Keurig models will definitely make a nice addition to your kitchen’s ambience. They are also light enough to move around in case you need to, or store away in the cupboard if it’s time to clean the kitchen.
However, if we take a closer look at the product characteristics of each coffee maker, there are quite a few differences between the Keurig K200 and the K250 model. First of all, the K250 model comes with 2 charcoal filters, 4 water K-cup pods, and 1 water filter handle, whereas the K200 model comes only with 1 water filter and 1 filter handle.
Moreover, another big plus of the K250 model is the descaling solution that is included. The descaling kit promises to extend the life of your coffee brewer and minimize the maintenance costs. It is also especially useful for people living in areas with harder water that tend to diminish the product’s overall life.
Apart from these extra features, the Keurig K200 and K250 model do not have any other subtle differences. You might find that the K250 model brews coffee a little bit faster among some other minor improvements compared to its predecessor- but that’s pretty much it.

Appearance and Design
Keurig K200 and Keurig K250 look pretty much the same, with no subtle differences when it comes to design. You can expect a sleek, modern, and minimalistic aesthetic – which you would actually get with any of the Keurig models.
The K250 comes in a variety of colors that promises to match your kitchen’s interior design just right. You can choose from turquoise, sandy pearl, peacock blue, black, denim blue, imperial red, oasis, and plum grey. The K200 is not bad either when it comes to color variety as it comes in black, oasis, orange zest, plum grey, strawberry, turquoise, and violet. So both models offer a wide array of colors that will make your life easier when trying to find a matching combination between your coffee maker your kitchen’s ambience.
When it comes to size and weight, both Keurig models are compact enough to fit into a cozy corner in your kitchen. Both coffee brewers stand just above 13.6″ inches height, and have a slim width at around 9″. Predominantly crafted from plastic, the Keurig K200 and K250 are also quite lightweight, weighing at around 10 pounds. But to be fair, the Keurig K200 is insignificantly heavier compared to its successor.
The two coffee makers feature a strength control setting that allows you to choose your coffee’s strength to brew the perfect cup. This means that you can control the intensity and strength of your coffee to fit your liking and preferences. I am sure this is great news for all the coffee lovers out there that are getting immune to caffeine.
Keurig K200 and K250 will brew different volumes of coffee according to the settings you have set – from a single cup of coffee, to a 30-ounce carafe. However, keep in mind that if you want to brew larger volumes, you will then need to purchase the K-carafe separately. If you are wondering what the K-carafe is, let me tell you this: the K-carafe pods contain up to 26 grams of coffee which translates to an average of 4 cups of coffee that is brewed into a specially designed carafe that can hold up to 30 ounces of coffee.
Despite their small form, both models have a large water capacity – holding up to 40 ounces of water in the reservoir. If we translate this into actual coffee, it means that we can brew 4+ cups of hot coffee before having to refill the tank. The reservoir can be easily removed in both models, so you can easily replenish the water capacity in just a matter of a few seconds.
The K250 will brew your coffee under one minute, which is slightly faster than its predecessor K200 which might take more than one minute to brew your morning cup. So if you are one of those people that are always running late to work, then maybe you are better off opting for the K250 model to save up a few minutes in the morning time. Nevertheless, keep in mind that coffee makers from other brands usually take longer than 1 minute to brew a cup of coffee – which means that both the K200 and K250 have quite fast brewing times.
Ease of use
Keurig K200 and K250 are very easy to install and use. Both devices have identical installation processes that do not require any professional assistance or specialized support. Even in the unlike case that you run into trouble, you can find detailed guidance in the user’s manual that comes with both devices.
Also, both models score high when it comes to ease of use. The user-friendly black and white touch screen makes it super easy to brew your favorite coffee in under one minute, even if you are not very much up to date with the digital world. So, all you have to do really is fill up the removable reservoir, insert the pod of your choice, and press a single button. Yes… as simple as that. In addition, both coffee makers feature an auto-off feature which allows the machine to shut off once the brew is over. This is an incredibly handy feature if you are on a hurry and you can’t afford to wait to shut off the machine ( i am pretty sure this scenario sounds familiar to most of us).
Now if you are wondering if there are any particular cups you will need to buy for these coffee brewers – forget it! You can fit any standard sized mug or cup of your choice under the dispenser, and the coffee will pour steadily without any spills or mess – which is actually great because who likes to clean up the kitchen’s counter after each coffee brew?
Both Keurig coffee machines are super easy to clean, and this is actually a major perk that comes with coffee pods. The removable drip tray and water reservoir can be easily removed to be rinsed out and cleaned. Just open and close the brewer handle (without a pod inserted) and select a brew size. The removable drip tray at the base of the machine will catch all drips while you are cleaning the machine.
The Keurig K250 has a small advantage here due to the descaling kit that comes with it – which will help immensely with the maintenance and cleaning of the coffee maker.
What about the coffee?
As pod coffee goes, the Keurig K200 and Keurig K250 model produce a very similar hot and satisfying coffee brew. So unless you have received training for it, you would never actually understand the difference in coffee taste and texture if you tried a sip from the two coffee brewers. This tells us one thing: That despite their small differences, the end result you will receive from the two machines is almost identical. And isn’t coffee taste and texture the main reason we are looking to buy a new coffee brew?
So, which is better: the Keurig K200 or the Keurig K250?
Honestly speaking, there are not any major differences between the two Keurig models. The choice between Keurig K200 and K250 simply comes down to details. Both models feature the basic functions you would expect from an automated coffee brewer, with a couple of additional details that add up to offer you an enjoyable coffee experience. Also, both coffee makers have a high ranking from customer reviews for their performance – which is a supplementary sign of credibility and reliability. Anyway, we would expect nothing less from Keurig, right?
Considering all the pros and cons of each model after our detailed comparison, if I had to choose between the two I would go for the Keurig K250 model since it is marginally better compared to the K200, and it is price at a good value for money. This mainly comes down to the array of additional accessories that the K250 offers, including the water filtration system and the descaling solution. Moreover, the K250 model offers a slightly faster brewing time and some other minor improvements compared to its predecessor. After all, the price difference is not that significant to think about it twice.
Nevertheless, if you are low on budget and you are not very fussy about the details then there is nothing wrong going with the K200 model. It is a very reliable and trustworthy machine that will do the job just fine. Whichever model you choose, we assure you that will be enjoying your morning hot cup of joy in style every morning and evening.
These two coffee makers are great when it comes to personal use, but are not ideal for every lifestyle. If you need to brew much larger volumes of coffee everyday – for example in the office – then you are going to need a bigger machine with increased capacity and functionality.
